Whatever your industry, understanding social impacts and climate change is key to the long-term success of your business. The care of your customers, the minds of your business partners and your employees expect it from you. This is not an area where any HR Pro can sideline or gloss as an important element of your employee engagement.
Many HR departments around the world have reached the same understanding as we are in Spotify. Being a global citizen is good for business and expected by your candidates and employees. As global citizens, we take an active role in the communities in which we live and build partnerships to make our planet more peaceful, sustainable and equitable. That’s why at Spotify, we place a bet on the social impact climate action plan, as well as the great coordination found between teams working on diversity, inclusion and inclusion. Our Equity and Impact team has created a shared mission around these critical areas, aligning our team and their purpose. We are working together on new methods and solutions that will greatly accelerate progress.
It is important to consider that the brand has the potential to make a real difference and most candidates and employees have a strong desire to work for a company that is consistent with their own values. Employees who truly care about them will see companies that do not want to have a positive impact on society as a whole as a less desirable choice for employment.
At Spotify we empower our band members to intentionally address social challenges with our producers to return them to their community, be socially responsible and environmentally sustainable.
If you are truly committed to equity and positive impact, you need to appreciate it:
- To create social and environmental equality we must fix systems, not individuals.
- Utilizing your business model for change will create more value than isolated public interest efforts.
The Play Your Part Hub
We use our platform and integrate technology and industry to reach thousands of manufacturers who want to play their part in creating a better world. As a media platform we believe in the opportunity and responsibility to drive change.
Experimenting in an area where we see an opportunity or discover a need is a method that is not a strange thing in Spotify. We design, we create, we implement quickly, we evaluate impact, we repeat, we expand. Often the way we work – continuous learning.
In 2020, we designed a hub on our platform using this method Play your part. It has invited users Get involved, learn and work In this first instance, the focus was on civic engagement and voting in the United States. The hub was full of content to educate voters with the necessary information about the 2020 US election. This non-partisan, educational resource was a broader multi-platform initiative that brought messages about civic participation from the voices that our listeners trusted the most. We’ve created podcast playlists on variables, educating, informing and preparing people to vote, forming the ‘engagement’ and ‘learn’ aspects of our approach.
Having a hub has allowed us to incorporate resources into the registration process to reduce barriers to registration (the need to be able to vote). We provided Play your part Easily access voter registration websites with one-click. We also kept all the resources they needed to plan voting: the ‘Act’ aspect of our approach. And since we’re Spotify, we’ve partnered with our first-time voter audience with favorite artists and influencers to keep new playlists entertained throughout the whole process, with our new music playlists our users voting experience প্রতিটি every important task deserves the best music!
Seeing its positive effects Play your part Hub, we realized that we will continue to lean on this hub to expand our reach on environmental and social impacts and climate change action rides. In 2021, we have repeated Play your part Center for activating the global community on climate change and building sustainable development. The Play your part The hub has been re-launched on Earth Day following the ‘Engage, Learn, Act’ format. The hub contains guest-curated podcast playlists, including the following sections:
- Knowledge is power – to go deeper with scientists and experts on some of the biggest challenges facing our planet;
- Voices of change – hear directly from employees, and how they use their voices to make a difference
- How to make an impact – Taking daily action on an individual and systematic level helps make our world a ‘cooler’ and better place to live.
From the hub, users were encouraged to work through external direct access Climate action time The site has provided our users with information and more resources on a wide range of topics from information skills, sustainable banking, political engagement and other issues of taking simple climate action that could make a big difference.
