Disney Genie it is confusing. There, we said it! But that’s why we’re here! We are unraveling the mysteries of Disney Genie and answering all your questions.
After the downpour of information that came out about Disney’s new service, we had a lot of questions. That’s how we are breaking down some of the most confusing elements in an easy to understand way.
What is the difference between Genie and Genie +?
This was one of the MOST confusing parts. With a new Disney system, there is new terminology. Basically, Disney Genie is a FREE .T service which provides planning options, recommendations and food reservations and mobile orders.
Meanwhile, Genie + is a paid service which provides access to Lightning Lanes (the new version of FastPass), as well as other benefits such as audio experiences, PhotoPass and special benefits for photos.
Here we break down Genie + into 500 words or less.
Disney Genie + is officially a replacement for FastPass, FastPass + and MaxPass $ 20 a day per ticket to Disneyland Resort and $ 15 per day per ticket to Disney World. Buying Genie + will give you access to Lightning Lane attractions (the new “FastPass” lanes). However, this becomes even more complex when you add pay-per-attraction attractions

How do booking times work and when can times be purchased?
Unlike the old FastPass + service, you cannot book your attractions in advance. Instead, people who buy Genie + will be able to book Lightning Lanes for one-on-one walks from 7:00 on the day of your visit to the park (but not for all trips, reservations for some trips open at the same time as the park opens (more on that later). Why at 7:00? Why different hours for certain attractions? So many questions were going through our heads.
Also, if you have Park Hopper, you can book Lightning Lanes at several parks at once. But remember, you can only book one at a time. Sounds simple right? Well, it’s not that simple. Not all routes will be available for regular Lightning Lanes. There will also be attraction-paid trips that you can purchase access to Lightning Lane individually. They will be available throughout the day and prices will vary depending on the date and time.

What are the pay-per-view attraction?
We had MANY questions about pay per attraction attractions. Therefore, Disney Genie + gives you access to Lightning Lane to many attractions, but some very popular attractions will NOT be able to do so with Genie +. Instead, you will pay them separately. And you don’t have to buy Genie + to buy paid attractions.
Some of the attractions that have been announced as part of this service are Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, Rise of the Resistance and WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure. We wonder whether or not these attractions will get a cooler name than “pay per attraction” and how these attractions relate to virtual queues, lightning streets, and other services. We look forward to exploring it ourselves for more details.

How does using Disney Genie as a headline work?
Disney Genie will be available to annual subscribers at Disney World and Magic Keyholder at Disneyland. Like the rest of the ticket holders, ticket holders and key holders will also be able to get Disney Genie + on the day of their visit to the parks at 7 p.m. This means that ticket holders and key holders can use the service in exactly the same way as everyone else.
Disney has stated that they are studying Disney Genie enhancements for ticket holders and key holders. Discounts, additional services and other benefits are possibilities in the future. We are still very curious to know what these improvements will be.

Why use Disney Genie?
In a perfect world where we all use Disney Genie, there would be lower waiting times, fewer crowds and almost as many problems with reservations. This is because the app helps you recommend less busy areas and balance waiting times with your recommendations.
Regardless of whether or not you pay for Genie +, the free Disney Genie service should provide some useful services, especially for first-time visitors. In addition, services like DAS (Disability Accessibility Service) can be added to both the free Disney Genie scheduler and Genie +, so you can have all your return times in one place.
