This week for our last episode Best advice: Season 1, We Got Princess Nokia, FKA Wavy Spice, AKA Destiny Nicole Frescoiri. At just 29, he has already released four albums and two mixtape – including two full-lengths from last year: Everything is beautiful And Everything is bad. Most recently you probably heard about him ex Best advice guest AshnikkoPush it “Sleep party, “Not to mention his track”It’s not my fault, “His first since signing Aristotle, and this fall he Hits the street His first title tour throughout the month of October.
Nokia fearlessly embraces its innumerable influences – punk, R&B, rap, pop, rev, emo – and pours all of this into its music. He is not influenced by the Jenner Convention and the inclusion of his word is also reflected in his fans and the community he created on his show.
While talking to her, she is surprisingly soft-spoken: leaning in one minute and the next one she is louder, louder than life. Make him angry for his love of PT Cruisers and he practically squeals.
Nokia had a lot of experience and sharing tips, starting with the importance of protecting your energy and from tapping into your inner child to letting your insane flag fly. He discussed why age should be increased and why there is so much to learn in moments of solitude. Plus he gave some advice from the late, great ASAP Yams.
On a personal note, one of the things I like about Nokia is its overall outlook. He has dealt with some injuries in his time and his childhood was difficult. He lost his mother at the age of 10, and later spent time in foster care where he dealt with abuse, and yet he continues to walk the world like a ray of positivity. Music and career strategy aside – it’s really inspiring to witness.
Highlights from Princess Nokia’s Best Advice episode
Self-love keeps you centered
As a woman or a person or a young creative, it’s really easy to get lost in yourself and the expectations and the kind of circus going on around you. Self-love is really a basic work. It kept me alive. This is why Princess Nokia still exists. That a-ha moment, that secret of success, it really comes from my own, inside. It takes practice and it takes discipline. You have to love yourself over and over again. This is a worthy journey.
Stay with the good people around you who let you get into your inner child
Everyone needs to find a connection with your inner child, that inner teenager, that core that makes you so great and makes you have fun. And makes you feel free. For me, it’s my group of friends. So the advice is to surround yourself with people who believe in greatness, who believe in you. And those who believe they can help take you to the next level, if you want to get there.
There are no boundaries as an artist
We are wild, wild west, honey. There is no limit to what an artist can do. Zheno looks at Iko, he is a healer. He did the confirmation album. Looking at Sweetie, she approves of the hair. See Joey Bada $$, he is an actor. Look at me, I am a spiritual healer. I’m an exhibitor, I’m an actress, I’m a voiceover actress. If the mainstream world or the general audience is confused by me, I can do two things: I can hide some parts of myself. [so I’m] Easily digestible and it will make my life easier. Or you could say, I’m going to take risks with my industry. I’m going to open myself up and I’m going to test.
