Just in time for its 50th anniversary, Walt Disney World’s Disney’s Contemporary Resort has unveiled a new restaurant aptly named Steakhouse 71.
Formerly known as The Wave … of American Flavors, Steakhouse 71 is located on the first floor of the contemporary and evokes the modern and elegant design of the resort, along with a pixie of Disney history.
What you need to know
This new addition is open for breakfast from 07:30 to 11:00, lunch from 11:30 to 14:00 and dinner from 17:00 to 21:00. Breakfast and lunch are priced at From $ 15.00 to $ 34.99 per adult while dinner is priced at From $ 35.00 to $ 59.99 per adult.
It is recommended to book restaurants in advance and they can also be done in the My Disney Experience app; however, if you are already within this 60-day window, consider using the TouringPlans Booking Finder.
Steakhouse 71 also offers a lounge and serves a variety of restaurant dishes, including its famous bacon and eggs, as well.
Now, because Steakhouse 71 occupies the space formerly housed The Wave … of American Flavors, Steakhouse 71 is completely enclosed and does not offer the same atmosphere or rooftop views as the resort’s California Grill.
However, its new mid-century design is a great improvement and takes more into account the contemporary theme; and for a touch of color, a bright, modern new mural of Cinderella Castle serves as a cheerful backdrop.
Our park reporter, Chrissy, recently tried the Steakhouse 71 lunch menu to see what the chefs have prepared for this reinvented restaurant and is happy to report that there are some definite winners here.
Caesar fork and knife salad: $ 10.00
Designed by the chef’s daughter to be eaten with her hands, Disney wants us to stay tidy and pretty, so use utensils. Anyway, this Caesar’s dress was deliciously thick, creamy, and heavy on the wonderful anchovy. So damn good. Don’t skip it!
Flat rate crab cakes: $ 15.00
Homemade savory crackers and ample crab with minimal filling will make any crab lover happy. It is a great value for $ 15.00.
Steakhouse Onion Rings 71: $ 9.00
Vegetable based, crunchy and delicious.
Bacon and eggs: $ 15.00
This cult classic from The Wave … of American Flavors has fortunately survived the restaurant change! It’s a maple-lacquered pork belly, smoked cheese grains and an egg; but don’t be fooled by its simple description. The mix of flavors is pure perfection.
Now, while Chrissy said the cheese grains and the reduction / au jus were the stars of this dish, Chrissy says she would still skip it in favor of the Caesar salad. Salad on pork belly and cheese? This is a real testimony.
Steakhouse 71 Stack Burger: $ 20.00
Yes. Yes. This is exactly what a meat burger should be and is accompanied by a small wedge salad, french fries or pasta salad. Warning: Don’t ask to share french fries for it to go.
This is the pasta salad, which was also good, but the fries still reign.
Grilled Gourmet Cheese: $ 16.00
Chrissy, who is described as Brioche, Gruyère, Smoked Gouda, Minced Pork Belly, Caramelized Onion Jam and Arugula with a Small Wedge Salad, French Fries or Pasta Salad, Chrissy says this dish is not suitable for children her) and not the brightest star on the menu. Omet.
Wellington Herbal Plant: $ 26.00
The menu indicates this starter as Duxelles of mushrooms and roasted artichokes wrapped in puff pastry, Romesco and Brussels sprouts.
This is 100% the best sample of Chrissy and possibly the best plant-owned product. DON’T skip this and the chef Nik’s hat tip for this amazing banquet.
Steak “Frites”: $ 26.00
Although the Hangar steak was hard due to lack of fat, it was still tasty and came with garlic-parmesan, chimichurri and truffle aioli.
Steakhouse Chocolate Cake 71: $ 11.00
This multi-layered chocolate cake is infused with whiskey and comes with raspberries; and according to Chrissy’s estimate, a good chocolate cake is a must after a heavy meal. All you need is a stretcher to take a nap afterwards.
Apple Tart Tartin: $ 8.00
Do not tell anyone about this plant. They won’t believe it’s that good.
Ambrosia: $ 8.00
Like coconut chiffon cake, tangerine curd and compressed pineapple, does this feel like too familiar a design and flavors that are perhaps boring? Let’s just say Chrissy didn’t like this one.
Overall, it was a happy, stuffed meal; and the things Chrissy loved, she really loved. Whether you want to dress up or bring something to the park, you will feel comfortable in the surroundings and enjoy a tasty meal.
