Shura – Spotify for artists

In this series, we talk to artists about their experience pitching music for playlist consideration through Spotify for Artists (Learn how here), And how landing on them has affected their music careers.

Brooklyn-via-Manchester singer-songwriter Shura There is experience on both sides of the playlisting game. He has been featured in playlists focused on such independent music Independent music Monday, As well as preferring cross-genre mood music sets The most beautiful song in the world And Front left; He is also involved in the curation game, releasing collaborative playlists with artists he respects. Red girl. We talked about his involvement with the song and the inclusion of his 201 hits. “Touch“Playlists of the last decade have influenced its streams.

Spotify for Artists: How much are you involved with pitching songs for playlists?

Shura: Things that are stored, usually, your unit, or your focus unit. This decision is often made with the record label: “Which thing are you going to publish first? What is the focus point? What is the video?” And that song will often be the song that is submitted for playlisting. Before that happens, I usually have a long conversation, or sit down and write about what the song is about. I’m a part of that process and I write it myself, because sometimes if you let someone else describe what you’ve created, it often doesn’t do it justice – or it can feel a little weird and weird. What’s good about it is that you have the option as an artist, as a part of what you want to be. I can log in to the backend and see exactly how my song is being submitted, and I can edit it and change it if I want.

When you first release a song, hopefully you get it New music on Friday And other first week based playlists. There are many of them, and they can vary between 5,000 or 100,000 to listen to your song in the first week, depending on where you are in those playlists. These are the obvious focus points that record labels want to specifically target.

Unlike new-music-centric playlists, “BKLYNLDN“Finally landed in the most beautiful songs in the world. How was it?

I remember the day [it happened]. If you decide to access Spotify’s backend for artists, you’ll be notified when you add it to a playlist. Obviously, it’s quite funny when you receive an email saying, “Your song has been added to ‘the most beautiful songs in the world.’ And then you check it out and you say, “Oh Blymy, there are quite a few followers here.”

It can make a huge difference to the people you discover. Check out some of the artists and songs in that playlist; This is not necessarily a genre playlist. There are many different artists from you. Those who can subscribe or follow a playlist come in contact with younger artists like me, whom they have never discovered because they are not listening to indie or alternative playlists. This kind of thing can make a really big difference, and it’s one of the most flowing tracks. “BKLYNLDN” is the most streamed track, actually on my new record. So it has definitely made a huge difference.

I noticed that Front left, Where you recently featured, also has a fairly wide range of remittances.

Yes. I was added to this because Spotify asked artists for guest-curated playlists, which I think is really great because I think some of the best curators must be musicians. If you’re a musician, it’s probably because you’re not a fan of music often – or at least you expect. The red girl was invited to compose 20 songs for the front left and she chose one of my songs along with many other great artists. It’s great that Spotify is inviting more and more artists as part of that curation process. Also, artists have their own playlists that they are currently listening to. I just started a collaborative playlist [series], Where I invite a musician or a friend who is a musician to collaborate with me on a playlist.

How did you put it together An associate playlist with the red girl?

Whatever I try to do and do, I say to the person I’m inviting, “Choose at least 15 songs.” Fifteen is a manageable number on which one can expect to choose without spending the day, and then I will do another 15. I like to sprinkle a few tracks by that person and a few by me. What we hear is not just people discovering, maybe I have some fans who are probably not familiar with the girl in red music. It’s that artist and the taste of their music I’m highlighting as much as possible. Hopefully, also, there will be people who are familiar with the red girl who will also discover me through that playlist. It’s a way to improve not only the artist, the world they live in, and the music and creativity that they put off. A lot of times it’s the little artist that people have no idea about.

Yours Currently FM There are many different artists in the playlist. Such playlists seem to be a great way to let people know that you have taken inspiration from a variety of sources.

Absolutely. We live in the post-genre era. Growing up for me was too much “you listen to a genre and as a result you dress in a certain way and that’s it.” Streaming has really changed the way people take music. We are less indigenous. I think music can exist in completely different genres as well as in playlists, and it’s a discovery tool for people. No one is going to say, “Oh, that’s weird – that, next to him?” They are at the stage of a discovery, which is funny.

Congratulations on being a part of “Touch” The best of the decade for you Playlist

So what? I didn’t know either.

I know this is a very popular song for you, but I was wondering if you have seen an upsurge in listening as a result of that playlist going live.

I can log in and watch – that’s a good thing about Spotify for artists. It seems that in the last seven days, it has increased significantly. Very strange. I love that. The best of the decade! Thank you very much On Wednesday, December 4, “Touch” had 11,000 streams. That’s almost average for me; This is my most preserved song and most played song. The next day – I guess, when I was part of this playlist – it doubled. Not too bad.
