Disney Aspire offers a wide variety of programs at more than 10 schools in the network, including high school diplomas, certificates, bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Eligible hourly employees and cast members have the opportunity to pursue their educational goals and make their professional dreams come true. Taking advantage of these programs, recent Walt Disney World Resort graduates hear what they have to say about the program and how it has helped them advance their careers to make their dreams come true.
What made you want to join Disney Aspire?
Demeatrice: I wanted to apply for Disney Aspire because it was free education and I wanted to advance my professional career through Disney and continue with Disney after finishing my Aspire training.
Mitch: I’ve always wanted to continue my graduate training. I got my bachelor’s degree in biology, but I knew there was another part of what I like to do and that I could go on to further training. Disney Aspire really provided me with the opportunity to do this.
Who would you say was your main support system to encourage you during your studies?
Demeatrice: My main support system was my Disney mentor, who was already working in network engineering. It was about three years before it moved towards cybersecurity. This is the same path I want to take and he is advising me on the types of tests I need to do and it helps me study. My mentor has been a great help throughout this trip.
Seth: My daughter. I have mainly joined the program to show you, when you grow up, that it is good to always have a goal and do everything possible to meet the goals you set for yourself.
Are there any personal achievements during your Aspire tenure that stand out to you?
Mitch: My biggest success during Disney Aspire was when I realized I was working a full-time job, maintaining a work-life balance, and doing my master’s program just to complete it hard. It didn’t seem to stress me out more; the way Disney Aspire helps with education really helped take the stress off my shoulders.
Seth: Just at the end of the high school program, I took the A Plus and Network Plus technical support certifications. This program has given me the confidence to get these certifications and has given me the security that I could have done years ago.
How did it feel to end your program?
Demeatrice: It’s great to have a degree. I’m still eager to finish my technical certificate and advance my professional career, but my high school degree has helped me stay motivated to keep looking for what I’m looking for in my career.
Seth: I would say it looks like a weight has been lifted, but I immediately applied to complete the master’s degree in cybersecurity through Disney Aspire. Graduation has been a milestone and I have already put another milestone in front of me to achieve it.
Why are you proud to be a Disney Aspire graduate?
Demeatrice: I am proud to be a graduate of Disney Aspire because it is a great opportunity to advance in my professional career and I also have help at Disney where I want to go.
Seth: Now I can show my daughter that I’ve been able to get it and that she can get anything she puts in her heart. Whether you want to go to school or pursue something else, you can have that drive and complete what you want to do.
Mitch: I’m proud to work for a company that enjoys devoting so many resources to the development of its employees, allowing them to pursue their dreams that they might not have pursued otherwise. I’m here as a Disney Aspire graduate with my master’s degree and I wouldn’t have pursued it if it weren’t for this program. That alone is enough to make you proud of this program and everything that goes into it.
