Genie + will be released at Disney World on October 19th. This new payment system will replace what was previously Disney’s FastPass + program, offering guests a modified way to avoid the waiting line at certain attractions and rides.
There’s a lot about Genie + you’ve probably heard about now, from pricing to the basic functions of nuts and bolts in the system. Beyond that, though, there are some features that may surprise you.
You can make several reservations at once
One thing guests may not realize with Genie + is that you can actually make multiple reservations at once. Disney has not discussed this detail too much and some guests may believe that only one reservation can be made at a time.
This is not the case. As long as booking times are at least two hours apart, you can make a second selection of Lightning Lane. Otherwise, you will have to wait until your current Lightning Lane booking is redeemed before you can make a new selection.
Customers using DAS can make two advance reservations
Genie + has built-in features for guests using Disney’s Disability Access Service (DAS). In Genie +, guests using DAS can make up to two advance selections. These reservations must be made at least two days before planning.
You can only make reservations for each trip once a day
A not-so-pleasant surprise for some guests will be that, under Genie +, you can only make one Lightning Lane reservation per trip, per day. While you can make as many Lightning Lane reservations in one day as you can, you won’t be able to ride the same attraction again with Genie +.
So, if your ultimate goal was to mount Space Mountain as many times as possible a day, you can only do it once through Genie + and the other times they would be on hold.
You may not modify or cancel these individual attractions.
While most attractions are included with the purchase of Genie +, there are some routes that are not. These a la carte attractions are those in high demand such as Rise of the Resistance, Flight of Passage and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. Please note that you do not need to purchase Genie + to book these individual attractions.
If you decide to buy a select individual attraction, it’s important to keep in mind that you CANNOT modify the one-hour return window, nor can you cancel the booking to receive a refund once the purchase is complete, so think carefully before making the reservation.
A FREE planning tool will also be released soon.
Don’t forget that you don’t have to pay any fees to take advantage of some of Disney’s new planning tools. Disney Genie is a complementary feature that will also premiere next week, located at My Disney Experience. This service is free for ALL guests.
Disney Genie seems to be full of planning tools for guests, offering completely customized itineraries based on real-time data and personal preferences. While you won’t be able to book Lightning Lane with the free version of Disney Genie, you can look at the expected waiting times to plan the day at the park accordingly.
Disney Genie will also allow customers to place mobile orders for food, check current wait list waiting times for table service restaurants, as well as provide a virtual assistant to answer any questions.
As Genie + and Disney Genie show up next week at Disney World, we’ll be in the parks testing everything to provide you with the latest updates and essential information so you can decide which of these new planning tools suits you and your family! Be sure to keep up to date with the latest Disney World news and updates.
