PHOTOS: See TRON updates, EPCOT transformation and MORE at Disney World.

Disney World’s 50th anniversary may have kicked off earlier this month, but there are still quite a few big projects underway in parks and resorts to look forward to!

Magic Kingdom

From two new roller coasters to the EPCOT transformation to the removal of things that have been in the park for a long time, there is a lot of construction to keep track of. So let’s take a look at it all.

Magic Kingdom

Mickey’s PhilharMagic

Last week, Mickey’s PhilharMagic shut down Magic Kingdom to undergo a makeover that includes adding a new Pixar-inspired scene Coco to the show. Meanwhile and this week, we had also noticed that the sign was getting a bit of TLC the canvas that once covered “Mickey’s PhilharMagic” was removed to reveal … well … nothing really.

PhilharMagic Construction

We’ve seen Disney remove the signage from the attractions a few times this year to renovate it, so it will likely return to the opening of the attraction on November 11th.

TRON: Lightcycle Run

We also took a walk through PeopleMover to check out the evolution of construction in TRON: LightCycle Run in Tomorrowland and, from above, the outside of the promenade still looks like an active work. There are a lot of them orange fencing, machinery and dirt.

TRON construction update

Disney still has not revealed opening date (or even timeline) for the new roller coaster, but we’re waiting for updates, so stay tuned.

The new EPCOT pyrotechnic show, Harmonic, debuted on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World on October 1 and has since been shown every night. But it seems that its premiere did not mark the end of some construction work since we noticed some cranes at World Showcase Lagoon this week near the large circular centerpiece.

Construction of harmonious barges

The show hasn’t been interrupted by any construction, so it’s likely that Disney will just make sure everything is in good condition for its new show.

Test track

At the exit of Test Track, we saw some of them new construction scattering by the exit of the store that all guests leave for …

…and the FastPass + kiosks that were previously out of the way are no longer there.

Track Track FastPass kiosks are gone

As a reminder, FastPass + has been replaced by two new payment services: Disney Genie + and Individual Attraction Selection – and all purchases and reservations to access “skipping the line” via the new Lightning Lanes (also known as the old FastPass lanes) can be made through the My Disney Experience app.

World Celebration

Earlier this month, EPCOT’s new “neighborhoods” debuted, turning Future World into three different areas: World Nature (which includes The Land and Journey Into Imagination With Figment), World Celebration (located in the center and includes the Earth spacecraft) and World Discovery (which includes Test Track, Mission: SPACE, and Space 220). Today, the world celebration remains closed, but so do we they were able to get a bird’s eye view of the building on our ride on the monorail.

The EPCOT construction looks very different from up here

This area will one day include new attractions such as Journey of Water – Inspired by MOANA and a new statue of Walt Disney in what will be called “Dreamer’s Point”. But for now, is an active work with a new hole opened in one area.

What’s going on here?

And, while we were at the monorail, we realized that the building walls that once stood between the world celebration and the world showcase had been removed to reveal that Disney had removed the pad that was here.

No more walls!

The transformation of World Celebration is another project that still has no end date.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Sunset and Hollywood Boulevard

At Disney Studios in Hollywood, the FastPass + kiosks were removed from the corner of Sunset and Hollywood Boulevard.

And they are no longer there!

It is possible that the area is now free of machines, but there are still remains of kiosks: just look at the paint and the floor.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Primitive whirlpool

Finally, we have been tracking the removal of Primeval Whirl in DinoLand, USA at Disney’s Animal Kingdom recently. And, while the entrance area still remains surrounded by building walls …

Primitive whirlpool

… that’s really all that’s left of it as most of the track has been completely demolished.

There are some below!

Well, that’s a summary of this week’s construction update. We’re always looking for new construction walls, scaffolding and great revelations, so be sure to stay tuned to DFB for the latest news.
