Cast members at the Walt Disney World Resort open-time capsule as part of the 50th anniversary

Twenty-five years ago, members of Disney’s Contemporary Resort cast carefully packaged a time capsule with documents, name tags and other treasures to celebrate the Resort’s dedication anniversary. The engineering services team sealed it and buried it on the ground in front of the Resort’s flagpoles, marking the location with a plaque that said, “It will open at 50”.th Anniversary, 10/25/2021. ‘Remember the magic. ‘”

Thus, on October 25, 2021, a group of very special cast members were invited to be among the first to see what was inside. You may recognize some of them; Earliene, Ruth Ann and Joe celebrate their 50 years of service during the most magical celebration in the world, 50 years.th Walt Disney World anniversary.

Among the treasures of the time capsule was a limited edition Disney’s Contemporary Resort 25.th commemorative coin of the anniversary, the first 1,000 of which were given to the dedicated cast members who were working on it at the time. Earliene recalled receiving her coin, saying she proudly added it to the collection of souvenirs she has amassed since she began working at Walt Disney World.

Other articles included a 1996 edition of an employee diary, with a 16-month countdown to the grand opening of Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park, which opened in 1998; a birthday poster for Cinderella Castle adorned with the decoration of her birthday cake; and a girl’s tie worn by Charles, the general manager of Disney’s Contemporary Resort at the time. Joe said he remembers adding this item, as bow ties were the accessory of Charles ’signature.

This moment was especially touching for Joe, who celebrated his 50th anniversary of service and retirement on that day. He loves to show cast members his original identification badge, which indicates his start date on October 25, 1971, the day Roy O. Disney officially dedicated the Walt Disney World Resort.

The contents of the time capsule have been archived and kept safe so that, as Walt Disney World continues to celebrate important anniversaries, cast members can look back on their story and share their stories for years to come.
