This weekend was the Destination D23 event at Disney’s Contemporary Resort and there were TONS of news.
In case you couldn’t get on it live broadcast of the event, we’ve put together a list of the BIGGEST news you might have missed! And there was a lot of important news, from the return of programs to a preview of the “real” lightsaber, so let’s get started!
Disney World shows
Fantastic! will return to Disney World in 2022! Fans ’favorite nightly show will return to Disney’s Hollywood Studios and it won’t be exactly the same. Disney announced that an entire segment of the show will be replaced new characters, stunts, animation and more!
We know it will be back in 2022, but Disney has yet to release WHEN in 2022. We look forward to more updates!

Fantasy Festival parade
He Festival of Fantasy Parade will return to Magic Kingdom in 2022! This parade features favorite Disney characters like Mickey and Minnie, Disney princesses, Peter Pan and more.
As with Fantasmic !, we don’t have an official calendar yet, but Disney confirmed that 2022 is the year of the return of the usual daytime parade!

Mickey’s Magic Friendship Fair
In addition to a daytime parade, Magic Kingdom will also receive one updated Cinderella Castle stage show! Previously, this show was called Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire, and now it will be called Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire.
The previous casteller show would be performed several times throughout the day on the stage of Cinderella Castle. We don’t know details about changes to this program yet when it will be released, so keep reading DFB for more updates!

Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade
Magic Kingdom has a new cavalcade! He Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade will debut in early 2022 with the most characters ever seen in a Disney cavalcade. Some of the new characters include Clarabelle, History of toys characters, Elena, Moana, Merida, Miguel, Baloo and even Nick and Judy Zootopia!
You’ll be able to see this new cavalcade a few times a day once it premieres, and we’ll be waiting for an official Disney date announcement!

Finding Nemo Musical
Disney gave it to us too some updates on the Finding Nemo musical show back to Disney’s Animal Kingdom! Disney recently announced that the show would be reimagined with a new story, but would still retain some fan favorite songs. The reimagined musical will be called Looking for Nemo: the big blue and beyond and will be based on the story of Looking for Dory, set at the Institute of Marine Life.
Looking for Nemo: the big blue and beyond will debut at Animal Kingdom in 2022, and we can’t wait to see how it turns out!

Disney World Rides
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Update
We have one Guardians of the Galaxy opening timeline: Cosmic Rewind and EPCOT! Although Disney had already announced that the new inland roller coaster would open in 2022, we finally cut the date down a bit more. Cosmic Rewind will open at EPCOT in the summer of 2022!
Cosmic Rewind will be one of the longest inland roller coasters in the world, with unique vehicles that can spin so you don’t miss a single detail! We learned that too Xander Gallery will be part of the travel queue⁇
… I Glenn Close will reprise his role as Nova Prime for the new trip.
We can’t WAIT for this new attraction and summer 2022 is not that far away!

Walt Disney World Railroad Update
He Walt Disney World Railroad also received an update, with the Engine number 1 now refurbished. The Walt Disney World Railroad has been closed to Magic Kingdom since 2018, when it closed due to the construction of TRON: Lightcycle Run in Tomorrowland.
There is no official opening schedule yet, but we are looking forward to seeing the new makeover of engine number 1.

Disney World Restaurants
Cafeteria and Restaurant connections
Great news! There is one new fast service restaurant arriving at EPCOT’s Neighborhood World Celebration called Cafeteria and Restaurant connections. Disney shared the conceptual art of what looks like a very bright and colorful space!

Fantastic! and World of colors
Disneyland has a lot of news! Night shows Fantastic! and World of Color return to Disneyland Resort. In 2022, guests will be able to grab Fantasmic! at Disneyland Park and World of Color at Disney California Adventure.
These two nightly shows will be back in 2022, so we’ll be looking forward to the official return dates!

Disney Center Expansion
The Disney center is getting a big expansion with a multi-year project to add more restaurants, shops and a large open green area. The AMC Downtown Disney Theater will be demolished and replaced by this new expanded area.
We are still waiting for more updates on Disney’s plans to expand the parks, resorts and downtown Disneyland with the DisneylandForward proposal.

MagicBands arriving at Disneyland
It’s happening – Disneyland is getting MagicBands! The new MagicBand + is currently slated to debut at Disney World in 2022, and will also be sold at Disneyland in the future. The new MagicBand + will have interactive features such as touch vibration, lights and even gesture recognition, and there will be some differences between how the MagicBand + works at Disney World and Disneyland.
We don’t know yet if MagicBand + will be released at Disney World and Disneyland at the same time, but we’ll be waiting for more updates!
MagicBands are coming to Disneyland!
DVC Tower at Disneyland
Disney launched a new art concept of the next Disney Vacation Club Tower at Disneyland! This 12-story tower is being built next to the Disneyland hotel, especially for DVC members. With 350 villas, there will also be a new swimming pool, an interactive play area, an outdoor bar, a communal lounge and a gym. And the outside the tower there will be details of Campaneta – Can you detect pixie dust?
The theme of this hotel is all about art. inspired by Disney animators. You will find many details of original art, drawings and much more throughout the hotel.

Hi Disney! Voice assistant
In partnership with Amazon, Disney is adding a voice assistant to Disney hotel rooms and we learned that Hey, Disney! The voice assistant also arrives at Disneyland hotels! This service will be available on compatible Amazon Echo devices and you can request information about parks, guest services, hotel amenities, weather, set alarms and more.
This service will be FREE for guests of the Disney hotel on both coasts and will be launched in 2022. We look forward to trying it out!

Technology is really expanding in Disney parks! With Disney EXO project, this new technology will allow performers to wear elaborate exoskeleton costumes without bearing weight on their shoulders or back. With pneumatic assistance to key areas of the joints, the weight of the exoskeleton goes to the legs instead of the back.
Disney will also start printing muscle in 3D, so we’ll probably be able to expect some hyper-realistic costumes at Disney parks soon!

Baby Big Robot
We have also succeeded another look at Robot Baby Groot, which is currently in development with Disney Imagineers. At Destination D23, Josh D’Amaro, president of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, shared a preview of Robot Groot interacting with him and making the greeting.
For now, there are no plans for Robot Groot to be placed in Disney parks, but we’re excited to see how this new technology can change the way we interact with characters in the future!

Preview of the “real” lightsaber.
And we took another look at the REAL lightsaber! Disney Parks President, Experiences and Products, Josh D’Amaro, gave us one LIVE preview of the lightsaber. And yes, it’s amazing.
This lightsaber won’t be sold at the Star Wars hotel, but we’re interested in seeing where this new technology is going at Disney parks.
