How is DIFFERENT Genie + at Disney World and Disneyland?

Disney Genie is here!

Disney Genie (includes free Genie planning service and Genie + and Individual Attraction Selection payment services) they are already available at both Disney World and Disneyland. We tested the system a lot at Disney World and also tested it for the first time on the west coast. But how do systems differ from each other? There are actually some important ways in which these systems differ. Here’s what you need to know.

Cost of Disney Genie +

The first big one is the cost. At Disney World, Genie + (the FastPass + paid replacement system) costs $ 15 per ticket per day. At Disneyland, the cost is $ 5 more. Guests must pay $ 20 per ticket per day to use Genie +.

This is an additional cost that you may want to consider in your budget if you plan to use the system there.

Increased cost of resistance pay per trip selection

Another big difference between parks is the cost of individual amusement selections (pay-per-view selections), or really the cost of selecting individual attractions for a particular trip.

In both resorts, the prices of pay-per-view selections (which are separate from the cost of Genie +) may vary by date and attraction. Pay-per-view selections for both resorts can vary in price from $ 7.

There is a trip to both coasts that is available for a fee: Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.

Rise of the Resistance

At Disney World, the cost of the Rise of the Resistance pay-per-view selection has been $ 15. We haven’t seen the cost rise above that. But the cost of the Pay-Per-Ride selection for Rise of the Resistance at Disneyland is $ 5 MORE. In fact, it will cost you $ 20 to buy the individual attraction selection option for Rise of the Resistance at Disneyland.

Of course, the prices of these pay-per-view selections are subject to change, but these are the cost comparisons we’re seeing right now.

No taxes

When Genie + debuted at Disney World, we realized that Genie + and the Pay-Per-Ride selections really cost guests MORE than expected. This is due to the fact that the tax was added to the total price during the purchase, which increased the cost a bit.

At Disneyland, though, No additional tax is currently added to the cost of Genie + or the cost of individual attraction selections. That means your Disneyland Genie + cost will be $ 20, not $ 20 plus taxes.

When you can buy Genie +

One of the biggest differences from Genie + at Disney World vs. Disneyland has to do with time. At both Disney World and Disneyland, you can buy Genie + before your trip by adding it to your ticket or vacation package.

The big difference comes for those who plan to buy Genie + on the day of their visit. At both Disneyland and Disney World, guests CAN buy Genie + on the day of their visit, but when they can buy it varies between the 2 resorts.

Ascent of the Lightning Lane Resistance

At Disney World, you can buy Genie + from midnight (essentially as soon as the day of your visit begins). But you won’t be able to make your first selection of Genie + Lightning Lane until 7am. In addition, you will not be able to purchase and book your first selection of individual attractions (pay-per-view selection) until 7 a.m. if you are staying at a Disney World resort hotel (or other selected hotels); or when the park opens (for other guests).

At Disneyland, (if you buy Genie + on the day of your visit, instead of moving forward) you cannot purchase Genie + until you have ENTERED a Disneyland Resort theme park. The same goes for individual attraction selections. This means that you really have to go inside one of the parks before you can buy Genie + on the day of your visit and / or buy an option to select individual attractions.

Avengers Campus Crowds

If you’re worried about getting early return times, making the most of your Genie + selections and / or getting certain pay-per-trip selections before they run out (as we’ve seen them do at Disney World), then you might want to check out parks early so you can make your Genie + purchase as soon as possible!

Number of lightning lanes available

The name Lightning Lanes to Disneyland vs. Disney World is also very different. At Disney World, there are over 40 attractions available through Genie + and there are 2 attractions in each park available for a fee. At Disneyland, the numbers are significantly lower.

There are only about 19 attractions available through Genie +. Here is the full list of Disneyland Park …

… and Disney California Adventure Park.

For pay-per-travel selections (also shown in the screenshots above), There are 2 attractions available at Disney California Adventure (Radiator Springs Racers and WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure) i There is only 1 ride available at Disneyland Park (Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance).

That’s a lot less in terms of selection compared to Disney World, but Disney World also has more parks to visit and more attractions spread over larger spaces.

When you can make a selection of Genie + Lightning Lane or pay per trip

One thing to keep in mind is when you can BUY Genie + (either in advance or on the day of your visit), but it is an independent issue that determines when you can MAKE your first Genie + selection.

At Disney World, you can make your first selection of Genie + at 7 p.m. When it comes to paying for travel, you can buy and make your selections at 7 a.m. on the day of your visit if you are staying at a Disney World hotel or selecting other hotels. All other guests can make their first pay-per-view selections when the park opens.

Lightning Lane at Disney World

At Disneyland, things are a little different. You cannot make your first Genie + Lightning Lane selection until you ENTER a theme park. The same applies to pay per trip. You you cannot purchase and make these selections until you ENTER a theme park.

Again, this could be one reason why you want to get into Disneyland theme parks very soon during your next visit!

At Disney World, the purchase of Genie + includes some small “extras”, including access to special PhotoPass lenses.

Your Purchasing Genie + at Disneyland does NOT include access to these PhotoPass lenses. But those who buy Genie + at Disneyland YES get unlimited digital downloads of Disney PhotoPass from their day at the park.

This is a pretty good advantage and one that Disneyland fans will recognize from the days of MaxPass.

And this is a look at the main differences when it comes to Genie + at Disney World vs. Disneyland. We look forward to further updates from Genie and let you know what we find. Stay tuned for more details.
