Pitt’s Disney Spirit Award winner Tre Tipton has been named the most inspiring college footballer

Many magical sporting moments have taken place on ESPN Wide World of Sports at the Walt Disney World Resort, but tonight is one of the most special. That’s because tonight, Disney Sports will present the annual Disney Spirit Award on ESPN’s national broadcast of “The Home Depot College Football Awards”. This year the award goes to Tre Tipton of the University of Pittsburgh as the most inspiring figure in college football.

Disney Sports Vice President Faron Kelley will present the Disney Spirit Award live on ESPN during a virtual broadcast of the awards program on December 9, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. ET. Be sure to tune in to your local ESPN station or ESPN app to learn more about its amazing history.

During a recent team meeting, Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi revealed to Tre that he had been selected to receive this year’s Disney Spirit Award. Watch the video above to see his memorable reaction to the news.

Growing up outside of Pittsburgh, life was not always easy. Tre struggled to deal with one family tragedy after another, as well as four injuries that ended the season in Pitt. This eventually led to multiple suicide attempts and turned a traditional four-year college football experience for him into what is now his seventh year.

But instead of letting go of his misfortune, he uses his circumstances to help others. Tre finally pledged to seek the help he needed for his mental and physical health. And it’s helping to rescue other people who fight similar demons with LOVE – Living Out Victoriously Everyday, a non-profit organization that set up a classmate with the goal of providing mental health support to campus mates. and beyond. Tre also talks motivatively about mental health on campus, in his former high school, and in the surrounding community.

Congratulations on a well-deserved honor!
