A new year is just around the corner! If you are planning a trip to Disney World in 2022, you are probably preparing for all the changes, including The genius of Disney i Geni +, the 50th Anniversary Celebration and much more!
However, if you are used to flying in and out of Orlando International Airport, then your Traveling to Disney World can cost MORE starting January 1st. True, there is a new line in your holiday budget that you should now plan to start in 2022: ground transportation.
This is because Disney’s Magical Express will end its service round trip to the airport, from 1 January. Magical Express was a free bus transportation system which took guests to their Disney World Resort hotels, along with their luggage, which would magically appear in the hotel room just a couple of hours after arrival. For many families, Magical Express was one of those Disney World traditions that marked the beginning and the unfortunate end (Tragical Express, anyone?) Of their vacation.
With Magical Express gone, you may be wondering how to get to your hotel, especially if you’ve been relying on this bus system for years! Well, a replacement bus system is approaching and will launch the exact date on which Magical Express disappears: Mears Connect.
Mears Connect will be the new “standard” mode of transportation for guests to Orlando Airport when staying at the Disney World property, along with some additional off-site hotels. Like the Magical Express, Guests will board buses at Orlando Airport and be transported to their Disney World hotel. At the end of the trip, guests will board the buses again to be taken back to the airport.
Mears Connect, however, will NOT be as free as Magical Express was. In fact, Mears Connect will cost a considerable new budget for when you plan your Disney World vacation. Mears offers two prices for guests: Standard and Premium.
Standard it will cost $ 32 per adult i $ 27 per child (ages 3-9) for round trip service. A standard one-way service trip it costs right now $ 16 per adult i $ 13.50 per child. So it would cost a family of four (two adults and two children) to do the math $ 118 round trip, while a one-way standard service the trip would cost this family $ 59.
Premium, on the other hand, costs $ 200 round trip for up to four (4) people, with each additional guest costing $ 55 round trip. Instead of a bus, guests using the Mears Connect Premium service would be taken to and from the airport in a smaller vehicle such as a van or private car. At this moment, only round trip service is available at the Premium price level.
Depending on the size of your travel party, choosing to go to Mears Connect can cost about $ 30 round trip if you travel alone for hundreds of dollars round trip for the whole family. This is definitely something to keep in mind when making other plans, such as yours hotel reservations (The cost of Mears Connect may be equivalent to another night at your hotel), your overall dining budget, the number of days at your theme park tickets, and much more.
What about that Brigthline train to take guests from Orlando Airport to Disney Springs? It is still under construction, but updates have been few and far between, with several delays affecting when we will be able to use the train. Even once it’s completed, we don’t know exactly how much it will cost at the moment. Numbers have been thrown but they can always change.
For now, your main options for arriving at your Disney World hotel from January 1 include Mears Connect, a taxi or shared travel service like Uber and Lyft, or a rental car. Unfortunately, none of these options are free, so your vacation to Disney World in 2022 will probably have to take into account the cost of ground transportation.
If there are any changes or upgrades made to the Mears Connect bus system, we will let you know! Keep up to date with the latest updates and announcements from around Disney World as you prepare for the 2022 holidays.
