If you haven’t heard, Disney’s Magical Express will be officially discontinued on January 1, 2022.
Magical Express was a free service that provided transportation from Orlando International Airport to Disney World to Disney Hotel guests. You may be wondering what your options are for 2022 and beyond at Disney World, so here’s what you need to know about the cost of replacing Magical Express.
Mears, the company that operated Magical Express for Disney, will replace the previously free service with a paid service called Mears Connect. This service is very similar to Magical Express, except that it will cost you.
Mears Connect will start operating on January 1, 2022, and you can make reservations now. At this moment, they do not offer luggage service such as the Magical Express, but point out to their website that they are looking to offer it as an option.
There are two different ways to book for Mears Connect, with different pricing depending on some factors. A standard reservation acts as a shared travel service. It offers you a place in a Mears Connect vehicle (which could be a bus, a van or a small vehicle) and you can do a few stops during the trip. Once you have checked in to the Mears Connect area of the airport, you will be in your mode of transportation in 20 minutes.
An express reservation it is rather a form of direct transport back and forth with the guarantee of a shorter wait AND that you are the first stop. Express bookings can be made in the same vehicles as the standard service, and are not private; you may be traveling with other people.
So what are the rates? These are the current Mears Connect prices:
- One way: $ 16 per adult, $ 13.50 per child
- Round trip: $ 32 per adult, $ 27 per child
- Round trip: $ 200 (up to 4 passengers)
- For additional passengers: $ 55 each
Please note that the child rate only applies children from 3 to 9 years. Children under the age of 3 travel for free, but this means that your 10-year-old child will be charged the adult fare.
So let’s say you are a family of four, two adults and two small children, and book the standard round trip service. You are watching $ 118 for your airport transportation, versus $ 200 by express return service. Group of five adults? You could be paying $ 160 for standard round trip service or $ 255 to express.
You can also consider other airport transportation options, such as shared travel, car rental, or, in the future, the Brightline train. Consider your budget and needs and make the decision that works best for you.
