Cast members bring sugar and spices to the holidays during Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary celebration with stunning gingerbread displays

Happy National Gingerbread House Day!

The most wonderful time of the year would not be complete without something sweet, and the incredibly talented pastry teams at Walt Disney World Resort have added a little extra sugar and spices and a little 50th Celebrate magic birthday at parties with this year’s gingerbread displays!

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa Gingerbread House (open now – January 1)

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa pastry team made all the stops this year. From gingerbread tiles and custom hand-painted character windows to elaborate EARidescent landscapes and handmade sugar flowers, the team thought and cared for the smallest and most cheerful details.

Assistant pastry chef John Dettman

“We know that gingerbread displays mean a lot to our guests,” said pastry assistant John Dettman. “This year, our team wanted our guests to be immersed in the celebration of the 50th anniversary. We have incorporated EARidescent shades into our hand-painted character windows and pastry assistant Fabiola Vidal Vazquez even applied the EARidescent cocoa butter airbrush to our landscape plants and flowers.

Disney’s Beach Club Resort Gingerbread Carousel (open now – January 2)

Guests have a treat at Disney’s Beach Club Resort! The gingerbread carousel theme changes every year and this year, the pasty team was inspired by Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” and the cast members created five detailed horses depicting some of their favorite animated characters.

“The gingerbread show is a team effort,” said Jesse Rodriguez, assistant pastry chef. “We all come up with ideas and add our own elements and talents to create something special for our guests. We have a lot of fun and see first hand how guests enjoy what we’ve created.”

The carousel also includes a special look at the 50th anniversary celebration, with handmade EARidescent snowflakes lining the top of the carousel and bright mini ornaments.

The American Adventure Gingerbread Show at EPCOT (open now – December 30)

The American Adventure at EPCOT includes not one, but three gingerbread constructions: the Lincoln Memorial, The American Adventure, and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial. Find a Walt Disney World 50th Birthday plaque as part of these exhibits.

“Our gingerbread exhibits are very detailed and we are as accurate as we can with the original structures on which they are based,” said pastry assistant Agueda Vásquez. “It’s great to see the faces of the guests as they enter the room and admire the amount of time and detail we put into these little structures.”
