“All That Glitters: The Crown Jewels of the Walt Disney Archives” opens today, December 12, 2021, at the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana, CA.
The exhibition will allow visitors to see the jewels and accessories of Titanic, The Princess Diaries and some of their favorite Disney and 20th Century Studios movies in a way they had never been able to before.
The three main sections of All That Glitters explore different facets of how jewelry is used to tell stories:
- “Jewelry informs the character” explains what portable accessories tell viewers about the characters.
- “Feature Vault” offers a look at the most prized jewelry and accessories in the Walt Disney archives.
- “Reflections on Reality” includes screens that link earrings, cufflinks, rings, tie pins, and more to the Disney movies and parks from which they originated.
Visitors will recognize iconic pieces from classics such as a rare merchandise medallion from the 1960 film “Pollyanna,” the stunning “Heart of the Ocean” necklace from James Cameron’s “Titanic” (1997) and the crowns and tiara Anne Hathaway from “The Princess”. Diaries ”(2001 and 2004).
Costumes and jewelry that have never been shown before will be on display, such as Mulan’s wedding dress from the 2020 Disney live-action film and the light of Aladdin’s genius.
