It’s been two months since Disney World launched its newest features in the My Disney Experience app: Disney Genie, Genie + and selection of individual attractions.
Both Genie + and the selection of individual attractions offer guests the chance to “skip the queue” at selected attractions in the four parks, but instead of being free as FastPass +, it comes at an additional cost. We’ve been testing both services since they were originally launched to offer you our best tips and tricks, and as Disney parks pile up during the holidays, we’re starting to see how a different pattern for waiting lines emerges in some of the most popular attractions.
One of the concerns that many Disney fans had when Genie + and Individual Attraction Selections were first announced was that the waiting lines would become much longer than they were when there was no capacity to skip the lines. After all, this was a common problem with FastPass + in the past.
When the services first launched in October (which is considered a slower time at Disney World in terms of crowds), we didn’t notice much difference in the waiting lines at the attractions. But, the trend has been a bit different for the selected attractions as the parks become more crowded.
For example, today in Magic Kingdom, we stopped at Jungle Cruise around 2:30 pm and the wait time was posted in 140 minutes (!!). While you can usually expect the wait line here to be longer than 30 minutes (mostly because it gets a special holiday overlay), this was a much longer wait than we had seen before Genie + was distributed.
And it’s not just the Jungle Cruise line that has been affected by Genie +. He Waiting times at other popular attractions such as Peter Pan’s Flight and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train have also been significantly increased. as more people choose to pay for access to Lightning Lane.
At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, we’ve seen the same thing. Although we are not uncommon to see long wait times on Flight of Passage, Kilimanjaro Safaris and Na’vi River Journey during the busiest times of the year, Genie + and individual attraction selections seem to be causing without pause in the long waiting times throughout the day.
For example, we noticed Flight of Passage had a 75 minute wait around 6pm the other night and spoke to a cast member who shared it that has been the norm since they opened Lightning Lane.
So if you’re planning on heading to Disney World during the busiest times of the year and aren’t planning to buy Genie + or selections of individual attractions, you’ll want to be prepared with a plan on how to tackle the attractions. with longer waiting times.
