NEWS: The inner mask requirement will take effect soon in California

To ensure that we are equipping our readers with all the information they need, we will continue to report any travel, security, and COVID-19 news that may affect a visit to Disney parks.
Over the past year, we’ve kept track of all the latest COVID-19 news to help you better plan your next trips.
COVID-19 health and safety signal
The situation with the pandemic continues to change and evolve. We recently shared updates on the Omicron COVID-19 variant, how this variant has affected travel restrictions and more. Now, we have a major upgrade of COVID-19 for those heading to California soon.
According to Deadline, California officials have announced that they will be instituting a “universal inner mask warrant, effective Wednesday, December 15.” The mandate of the mask will be until January 15, 2022.
Dr. Mark Ghaly, the state’s director of health and human services, said they will require them “Universal Masking in Statewide Indoor Environments.”

California will also tighten certain restrictions on those who are not vaccinated and attend indoor “mega-events” with 1,000 or more people. The new requirements will require these individuals to receive a negative COVID-19 test within one day after the event (in the case of a rapid antigen test) or within 2 days (in the case of ‘a PCR test).
California also recommends (but does not require) that those traveling to the state or returning to the state after traveling be tested for COVID-19 within 3 to 5 days.

Facial mask signal
The mandate for interior masks in California will extend to places like movie theaters, retail stores, restaurants, government offices that serve the public, and more. Dr. Ghaly noted that California has seen a “47% increase in case rates since Thanksgiving.” and that local hospitals are “seeing patient levels ‘significantly above their baseline for this time of year'”.
Dr. Ghaly said: “Honestly, with Delta and Omicron and the fastest replication, we’re seeing people who, if they get seriously ill, are getting sick sooner. So we don’t have much room … as we did. ‘last year to make adjustments “.

Facial mask sign
Although the Delta variant is still the predominant variant, at least 13 cases of the Omicron variant have been identified in California.
Please note that at Disneyland, masks are already required in all indoor locations. Specifically, the Disneyland website states that “Facial coverage is required for all guests (ages 2 and up) in all indoor locations, regardless of vaccination status. This includes entering and along many attractions and closed transport vehicles, including shuttles and buses. Facial coverings are still optional for guests in outdoor common areas. “
