National Cupcake Day: Learn how to decorate Mickey Mouse cupcakes at home

Happy National Cupcake Day! Today I’m excited to talk about two of my favorite things: Cupcakes and Make-A-Wish.

While the pandemic presented unique challenges for everyone, including wish-granting ones, we have continued to grant Disney unforgettable wishes and create magical experiences for Make-A-Wish kids. From a royal greeting from Princess Belle to the inspiring stories shared as part of #TheWishEffect, we’ve seen how a desire opens up a world of possibilities. We are honored that Disney has grown to grant half of all Make-A-Wish wishes in the United States, and along with Make-A-Wish, we have granted more than 145,000 wishes worldwide.

A few months ago, we granted a very special wish to a child who wanted to decorate delicious cupcakes with chef Minnie. Inspired by the desire of this child, today we will show you how to make a cake with the help of a special guest: Minnie Mouse herself! In honor of National Cupcake Day, Chef Minnie and Chef Magaly from Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge at Walt Disney World Resort will guide you through decorating your own Mickey Mouse-themed cupcakes at home.

Before you join in on the fun, make sure you have all the ingredients ready and a parent to help the little ones. Here’s a list of everything you need to make these delicious treats **:

Ready, set, ready!

  • First, fill the pastry with the red butter cream coating, then place the tip of the pastry inside and cut it carefully.
  • Then fill the bag with red cover and get ready to start decorating.
  • To decorate, start by icing a “ring” of buttercream on the cupcake.
  • Then place two yellow “buttons” on the front of the cupcake.
  • Almost there! Use the cover bag to add 2-3 rounds of red icing on top.
  • Finally, stick two round cookies on top of the icing to make Mickey’s ears
  • Enjoy!

See below for detailed instructions from Chef Magaly and Chef Minnie.

For over 40 years, Disney has worked with our Make-A-Wish friends, whose incredible work creates life-changing experiences for children with critical illness. Together, Disney and Make-A-Wish have granted more than 145,000 Disney wishes worldwide. From sailing aboard a Disney cruise, opening the doors of Disneyland Park, to decorating cupcakes with Minnie as you saw today, no two desires are alike.

Enjoy your sweets! For more crafts and fun activities at home, stay tuned to the Disney Parks Blog and @DisneyParks on social media.
