Disney has several different programs aimed at environmental sustainability, such as massive solar panels at Disney World, the disposal of disposable plastic straws and biodiesel fuel made from recycled cooking oil that is used in some attractions. .
If you’ve ever been to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, you may have noticed that the company advocates for various environmental causes there. Some of the attractions work to raise awareness (such as the Feathered Friends in Flight show) and you can make a donation to certain conservation funds while in the park. Now, there is a NEW energy saving project coming to Anaheim that could affect your trip to Disneyland.
Sage Energy Consulting has announced that it is working with the Anaheim Transmission Network (ATN) to “reduce its greenhouse gas emissions, save on electricity costs and charge smartly. its new electric buses.”
These buses, which stop at Disneyland, are charged instead of refueled. Some of the charging stations for electric buses run on solar energy, which means that ATN will also save money on electricity and further reduce its carbon footprint. In the event that solar power is insufficient at some point, these stations also have “microgrid battery safety systems,” which means buses will still be reliably available.
One of the difficulties of solar power is that it is not always very reliable (as it depends on the outside environment). Sage Energy Consulting is helping ATN develop a system that is sustainable and reliable so that guests can use zero-emission public transport.
ATN expects to have a 100% electric bus fleet by 2025, which means you could go on a solar-powered electric bus on your next trip to Disneyland!
