Ridley Scott gave birth “AlienThe universe with the 1979 classic before handing over the reins to several other directors, including James Cameron, David Fincher and Jean-Pierre Junet. Scott returned to the universe created in 2012 with “Prometheus”. The “alien” prequel is quite polarized. The material from the script to the characters has been criticized by critics and fans.
However, “Prometheus” marks Scott’s return to form. Like the original 1979 sci-fi masterpiece, the 2012 follow-up “Prometheus” took a more minimal approach. Its simple but effective plot provides a ship, crew, aliens and alien planets. Like “Alien” before, there’s a barebones plot rife with mystery. Add a solid cast, including Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba, and Charlize Theron, using some of CGI’s best in any film, and an epic score by Marc Streitenfeld, and you’ve got a great flick. Presumably, the split response stemmed from a lack of “Prometheus” answers – fans had to wait for “Alien: Covenant” for them.
