Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter Resort: Basics
Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter is a moderate Walt Disney World resort in the Disney Springs area.
True to its name, Port Orleans French Quarter has the theme of the New Orleans French Quarter with a touch of Mardi Gras.
Here guests will find wrought iron railings, manicured lawns, cobbled streets, streetlights and magnolias on the banks of the Sassagoula River.
This resort is unique because its sister resort, Port Orleans Riverside, is right next door. Both resorts are among the last to reopen after the closure of Walt Disney World in March 2020.
Our Port Orleans French Quarter Resort room
Our park reporter, Chrissy, was recently staying in the French Quarter of Port Orleans when she reopened to experience Disney’s vision of Crescent City.
Chrissy was staying in a garden view room in Building 2, priced at $ 293.40, taxes and fees included on December 14, 2021.
Ready for the big revelation? The bedroom space in room 2202 was 19 feet 7 inches long x 12 feet 8 inches wide.
The furniture in the room consists of:
- 2 double beds
- 1 table with 2 chairs
- 1 bench
- 1 shelf with pegs
- 1 bedside table
In addition, the room offers a total of 11 plugs and 6 USB ports.
Like most Disney Resorts these days, there is plenty of space under the two beds to store luggage; and yes, your children will not only jump on these beds, they will also crawl under them. You have been warned.
Each bed has four pillows with an extra sealed blanket and a pillow in the closet / bathroom space.
In addition, according to the TouringPlans room review standard, Chrissy checked the dates, marks, and condition of the mattresses and bedding in the room.
The mattress was a BeautyRest and in good condition. He also shared pictures of the labels and markings on the blankets, sheets and pillows:
The oldest sheets were dated February 2019, but still appeared to be in good condition.
Also, as a special touch, I was waiting at the table for a Hidden Mickey made of Mardi Gras pearls. Who wouldn’t like a free, thematic record?
The flat-screen TV in the room was a 52-inch Samsung. Surprisingly, this is actually bigger than the TV Chrissy had in her room at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge earlier this year.
The TV was attached to a movable arm with cable connection / access at the back.
This is great if you’re traveling with a Roku device, Amazon Fire TV, or anything else that sticks to your TV.
The room also includes a two-cup Cuisinart coffee maker with filter packs.
Coffee (both regular and decaffeinated), tea, plastic cups and polystyrene foam, sugar and cream are offered. The shop window itself was 5 feet 6 inches x 2 feet wide.
Here’s a look at the hidden mini-fridge in the room.
I can’t say I love these air conditioning units, but at least they match the room?
Also, keep in mind that the curtain hanging over the bedroom window doesn’t lock. all of that Florida sun.
Speaking of which, Chrissy did light readings all over the room, all LUX. Here’s what he discovered:
- Double curtains, one transparent and one opaque, both closed and all lights off in the room = 10.4
- Table and chairs with lights on 189
- Comfortable near coffee machine with lights on 74.8
- Pillow with lights 194.5
- Bedside table with lights 223
- Bathroom handkerchief with lights 347
He also assessed certain sound levels in the room:
- Bedside table with air conditioning at 54.1 dBA
- Window near air conditioning with air conditioning running at 64.2 dBA
- Bedside table without A / C 42.2 dBA
Like many Disney Value and Moderate rooms, the bedroom is separated from the dressing table and wardrobe by a curtain divider.
The entire sink space was 7 feet long x 5 feet 6 inches wide.
Fortunately, the sink has storage space both above and below its double sinks.
There is also a wall-mounted magnifying mirror …
… and here’s a look at the hair dryer in the room.
To the right of the dressing table there is an additional shelf, a sealed pillow and blanket, an iron and ironing board and the in-room safe.
It is a standard security mark.
The bathroom is now what you would normally find in a Disney Value or Moderate resort. Basically, it’s a polite way of saying it’s going to be small.
The combination of bath and shower is relatively standard.
In addition, the bathroom door has a full-length mirror, which we believe should have, by the way, all the hotel and resort rooms.
The bathroom had six bath towels and 6 towels.
Here’s a look at the bathtub …
… and the shower head.
Unfortunately, the trend of mounted H20 + shampoo, conditioner and body wash pumps has also continued here.
Now, like other Disney Moderate and Value resorts, rooms at Disney’s French Quarter have an outside entrance with access by both stairs and elevator, but many in French Quarter offer scenic views of the resort grounds and the Sassagoula River.
In addition, although Room 2202 was classified as a Garden View Room, it had all the advantages of being a preferred room.
Chrissy actually timed how long it took to get from her room to certain areas of the resort. Here’s what he discovered:
- 1 minute 22 seconds from room 2202 to Sassagoula Floatworks
- 3 minutes 16 seconds from room 2202 to the bus stop
- 48 seconds from Room 2202 to the Double Lagoon Pool and Splash Pad
- 59 seconds from room 2202 to the Sassagoula steamer bound for Disney Springs
- 15 minutes 23 seconds from French Quarter Pier to Disney Springs Pier

Transport by bus and boat
When it comes to coming and going from the French Quarter, Disney offers two transportation options: buses and boats. However, boat transportation is only available at Disney Springs. As for parks, buses are the only option for those who do not plan to drive themselves or use a car-sharing service.

When he asked four bus drivers in total about it, they all said the same thing: the buses start going down to the two resorts in the afternoon, usually around 1pm, but that depends on the crowds.

Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory

Chrissy loved Prime Rib Dip so much that she is already planning a return visit to try it again. He described it as a swollen loaf that embraces a tender rib, shaved and smothered with melted provolone cheese. So great, you don’t even need the Bird Juice.
