NEWS: Government officials and health experts urge the public to cancel New Year’s plans

We are fast approaching New Year’s Eve and, all the while, COVID-19 figures are rising across the country.

Happy New Year!

The Omicron variant is on the rise and the positive test rate for COVID-19 is several times higher than it was just a few weeks ago. And now, government officials and leaders are urging Americans to avoid certain New Year’s celebrations.

According to the Washington Post, these warnings come from leaders across the country. “Omicron and Delta are coming to your party,” Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker told a news conference this week. “So you have to think twice about how many people will gather, keeping social distance away if you’re at a party. And if you can’t, leave.”

San Francisco has canceled its popular New Year’s program, and Mayor London Breed has stated that “we must remain vigilant to do everything possible to stop the spread of the covid-19 omicron variant.” New York City will also reduce its celebrations, requiring attendees to be fully vaccinated and wearing masks.

Anthony Fauci pointed out similar warnings, saying: “When you talk about a New Year’s Eve party where you have 30, 40 or 50 people celebrating, you don’t know the status of your vaccination, I would strongly recommend: stay away , this course. “

There are still plans for Disney World and Disneyland to have New Year’s Eve entertainment, but Orlando, FL, will cancel the Orange Ball download this year (according to Click Orlando). A city official has pointed out that the tradition should return in 2022. Interestingly, the cancellation is not due to the pandemic, but to construction in the area.
